What is SMS OTP?

By LeadFormHub Editorial Team ·

SMS OTP is a one-time code sent by text to the mobile number on the form. The visitor enters the code, and the lead is saved only after it matches. In LeadFormHub this works for India mobile numbers. It is not a worldwide SMS service. Email OTP is the option that works for an inbox anywhere.

Why it matters

A phone field can contain a random string of digits that still looks plausible. A text code confirms the handset received the message, which is the check you want before a salesperson dials.

Example

Illustrative example. A visitor in India enters a mobile number on a callback form. The form sends a code by SMS, the visitor types it, and the lead is stored. The same form offered to a number outside India would use email OTP instead of SMS. This is a description of the path, not a delivery statistic.

How to measure or apply it

Add a phone field, then turn on mobile OTP for that form. Use it where a wrong number is expensive. Tell the visitor why you are sending the code, in the label or the line above the field. Compare finishes before and after on the same offer, and do not treat a drop in volume as failure if the remaining numbers connect. If the number is not an India mobile number, use email OTP instead of a text.

In LeadFormHub

SMS OTP supports India mobile numbers; email OTP works worldwide. SMS OTP is not on the free plan. Pro includes 100 OTP verifications a month and Business includes 1000, shared with email OTP.
